May 11-12, 2009 – It was a picture perfect day at Deep Springs Country Club in Madison, NC, where the annual Hopper Heritage Foundation Golf Classic was held. Friends, supporters and board members of the Foundation gathered Monday evening to enjoy a prime rib dinner and kick off the event. It was a great evening of music, fun and fellowship with music by the Hoppers, the original Hopper Brothers & Connie and the sidesplitting comedy of Wayne Hopper, which topped off the evening.

The Hopper Heritage Foundation Golf Classic was an event centered on togetherness. We were blessed with the perfect mix of generous sponsors, outgoing executives, artists, family, friends, and of course, golf that provided an opportunity to win $2 million, a car provided by Victory Chevrolet in Madison, NC, and $10,000 in cash.

The volunteers and sponsors provided each golfer with first class service and hospitality. Pastor Bruce Freeman, of Peace Haven Church, remarked, “It was my joy to participate in the HHF Golf Tournament, along with three other members of my church. I played good golf and had a great time. The atmosphere was enjoyable, and the fellowship was wonderful, I hope to be invited next year.”  Zane King of Compassion International said, “Compassion is delighted each year to participate in the Hopper Heritage Golf Tournament. Our respective goals are similar in nature which makes our partnership beneficial and worthwhile.” Eric Cuddy of Fellowship Chapel Bristol, VA writes, “This was by far one of the best tournaments we had played. My dad and I were talking about how in all the tournaments we had played that this was the first one that took great care of us. It was well worth the trip from Bristol. We will definitely be back next year!” Frank Vaughn of First Bank said, “This event was handled very professionally. I have played in all three tournaments and each year just keeps getting better and better. I heard nothing but positive comments about the day. We are proud to be a sponsor and are looking forward to next year!” Corey Pearson of the Diplomats raved, “My group and I had a blast, we are looking forward to attending this next year.” Dr Ray Barber, President of Oakland City University stated, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and thought it was a great day!”

At the end of the day the golfers were awarded with prizes for there performance on the green. Even though the golfers received prizes, the biggest prize of all was given to the many young adults who gratefully receive these funds to further their careers. At 3:00, Dr. Keyes, President of Rockingham County Community College, received a check for $3,000 for current and future students as he emphasized the importance of events such as these by stating, “In these tough economic times, these young adults are finding it harder to receive financial aid, and programs like the HHF make it a little easier for young adults to attend college.”

Our purpose for the golf tournament is to raise money for the Hopper Heritage Foundation, which goes towards assisting young men and women in attaining an education for studies in Christian and Southern Gospel Music, Business and Economics. Claude Hopper rightly believes that “it is very important to focus on a young persons future that is wanting to sustain his or her career in the gospel music field.” Today many young adults from around the nation are given support through this great cause. The Hopper Heritage Foundation would like to thank all that attended. The funds raised exceeded our expectations. The applause goes to all of you, our gracious supporters. Thank you From the bottom of our heart.

We invite you to join us for our 2010 annual event as the HHF returns to the Madison area. As is tradition, the HHF Golf Classic offers a wide variety of sponsorship opportunities to both corporate and individual sponsors. If you are interested in attending the tournament, the banquet, or sponsoring a hole, please contact; The Hoppers at 2811 US HWY 220, Madison, NC 27025, call 336 548 2526, or contact us here .We cannot wait to see you!
