Something New Is Happening with the Legendary Hoppers This Week;
Awarded Family Group Joins Producer Lari Goss for All-New Recording Two Years in the Making
NASHVILLE, TENN. (August 23, 2010) – THE HOPPERS, one of Gospel music’s most acclaimed and awarded family recording artists, have just completed an all-new studio recording entitled SOMETHING'S HAPPENING (Spring Hill Music), which will hit the streets August 24th. The new release, produced and arranged by legendary composer and producer Lari Goss, has been in the works for nearly two years.
“When you are in the studio, you’re always trying to make sure you are getting it right,” describes soprano Kim Hopper. “Singing before an audience is entirely different. When on stage, you want to paint pictures for the audience as you sing. This recording process gave us a chance to go in and re-do what we had recorded based on what we found worked live. We changed the flow of lines and were able to capture on the recording something closer to what we do in concert.”
The group has captured some unique moments on the new release, which includes songs penned by Bill Gaither, Rusty Golden, Dianne Wilkinson, Joel Lindsey, Tony Wood, Kyla Rowland, Nancy Harmon, Larry Hinson and Gerald Crabb among others. One of those stand-out moments is Connie’s collaboration with Goss on the title cut.
“We had listened to the song ‘Something’s Happening,’” adds Connie. “Kim liked it. Lari loved it but said that it needed something between the verses—something describing what’s going on. He said, ‘Connie, why don’t you go write that?’ This is what we came up with.”
“Lari is a well that never runs dry,” describes Dean. “He pieces the story together regardless of the style of song and has such knowledge. He is constantly thinking from the top to the bottom of the process…seeing the song from beginning to end. It’s like God’s given him a three-dimensional view into a song with the heart that he has in each stroke of the pen while writing arrangements.”
One of the unique vocal arrangements on the release is “Living in the Arms of Mercy,” which finds drummer Mike Hopper behind the microphone, taking the high part alongside Dean and Kim for an unexpected blend from this family. “Nobody’s Too Bad or Too Good” features a solo from Dean and Kim’s daughter Karlye. Group patriarch Claude Hopper is featured on a re-make of the classic “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow.” The group also joins artists Greater Vision, The Booth Brothers and Legacy Five for the song “Statement of Faith,” a song recorded collaboratively and released by each of the groups on their individual recordings in addition to being released into the choral market through LifeWay.
The release of Something’s Happening falls on the heels of the successful launch of THE GAITHER GOSPEL SERIES: THE BEST OF THE HOPPERS (Gaither Music Group). The DVD soared to #2 on Billboard’s video chart while the CD entered the Billboard Heatseeker chart at #4. Additionally, the CD entered the Nielsen SoundScan Southern Gospel chart at #1 and the Contemporary Christian chart at #10.
The Hoppers maintain a heavy touring schedule, performing on the Gaither Homecoming stage, at the National Quartet Convention (over 60,000 attendees), the Great Western Gospel Music Fan Festival (8-9,000 attendees), at the Cove and at Singing in the Sun in addition to around 150 dates annually.
SOMETHING'S HAPPENING, available through EMI CMG Distribution, will be available at online outlets, including iTunes and Amazon.com among others, and also in retail stores where Christian music is sold. For further information regarding The Hoppers, visitwww.thehoppers.com.

08.19.10: Kim Hopper update -
With the doctors’ consent, Kim and the rest of the Hoppers boarded the Gaither Homecoming cruise to Hawaii this past Saturday. Naturally, she is still easing around and keeping in her stateroom, but we are very pleased to report that she has not missed a concert yet! We hope and pray that she only continues to progress with no further setbacks and we ask that you do the same. Kim is set to rejoin the group full time upon their arrival back to the mainland.

NEW GAITHER GOSPEL SERIES:
THE BEST OF THE HOPPERS ROCKETS UP BILLBOARD CHARTS
NASHVILLE, TENN. (August 10, 2010) – Just one week after its long-awaited release, The Gaither Gospel Series: The Best of The Hoppers made an impressive debut, with the DVD soaring all the way to #2 on Billboard’s video chart while the CD entered the BillboardHeatseeker chart at #4. Additionally, the CD entered the Nielsen SoundScan Southern Gospel chart at #1 and the Contemporary Christian chart at #10.
One of the most awarded and respected groups in southern Gospel music, The Hoppers have spent more than 50 years recording Gospel music and traveling worldwide, performing fan favorites like “Jerusalem,” “Yes I Am,” “Shoutin’ Time” and “Yahweh,” to name a few of the 18 tracks found on this new collection.
The Best of the Hoppers, hosted by Bill Gaither, highlights many of the group’s unforgettable and heartwarming performances from the Homecoming Series over the past two decades. Claude, Connie, Dean, Kim and Mike Hopper crack open the family scrapbook with never-been-seen-before family insights as they re-trace their extraordinary musical journey.
"For 50 years, we've put our heart and soul into the messages of our songs,” recalls group member Connie Hopper, “and we’ve worked to make those lyrics translate onto our videos." Dean Hopper, a second generation member added: "As I looked back over this list of songs and the memories they bring to mind, I experienced a ‘chills-up-your-spine moment’ as I considered all of the opportunities we have had. We couldn't be more grateful."
The Best of The Hoppers aired as a part of a television feature on Great American Country (GAC), the RFD Network, TBN, Daystar, FamilyNet, Gospel Music Television, Gospel Music Channel, Liberty, CTN, Total Living Network (TLN) and Crossroads & Vision Television in Canada among other outlets.
The Best of the Hoppers (Gaither Music Group), distributed by EMI CMG Distribution, is available online and everywhere Christian music is sold.
08.09.10: Hello, folks! Well, we are pleased to tell you that Kim is feeling fine and eating well. The duration with medical centers and most of the medication is now finished. Her stint in the hospital, obviously, led her to a slow recovery process, but we hope to have her back very soon. She plans to make her first return with the group this month on the Gaither Homecoming cruise to Hawaii, however, that will be determined this week by her doctors. Your prayers are requested that she will be able to make this trip safely, and (if you were in attendance these past few months) we thank you for your understanding, as well as in advance for future concerts where she will, most likely, be unable to spend much time at our product tables. Thank you all once again for your calls, notes, flowers, and prayers!
God Bless,
Dean Hopper

Sarah Palin To Be Featured At 2010 National Quartet Convention
Louisville, KY - The National Quartet Convention Board of Directors has announced plans for former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republication Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin to be featured during the 2010 event, set to take place in September in Louisville, KY.
Author, speaker and political commentator, Sarah Palin became only the second female and the first Alaskan on the national ticket of a major party when Republican presidential candidate John McCain chose Palin as his running mate in the 2008 presidential election. Palin was also the first female vice-presidential nominee of the Republican Party.
In November, 2009, her autobiography Going Rogue: An American Life was released and quickly became a best-seller. In January, 2010, Palin began providing political commentary to the Fox News Channel under a multi-year contract.
Governor Palin will serve as the keynote speaker during an hour-long event on Thursday, September 16, beginning at 2:00pm in Louisville’s Freedom Hall, located on the grounds of the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center. Palin will speak for 30 minutes and then spend 30 minutes conducting a question and answer session with attendees. Admission to the session featuring Palin will be included with the Thursday Showcase ticket package offered by the National Quartet Convention. Attendees who purchase a ticket for the Thursday event on the NQC website (www.natqc.com) may submit a question to ask during the session. According to NQC Executive Vice President Clarke Beasley, if the question is selected, the person submitting the question will be recognized during the session.
“We are delighted to be able to present Governor Palin to our NQC attendees,” Beasley stated. “She is an inspiration to so many, and she is doing many conferences throughout the nation where she focuses on what her Christian faith and her family means to her. Those are the type of topics she will address at the NQC. We are thrilled to host her.”

07.01.09: June Highlights and photos from Norway, Ireland, Holland and USA. Even more highlights.... Hoppers Kick Off Summer Schedule With Extended New England & European Tours -- The Hoppers kicked off the summer with a four-day concert tour in New England, featuring two sold-out concert and near-capacity crowds at the other two events. On May 28, the trip officially began with the first stop in Georgetown, DE, at the Crossroads Community Church. From Delaware, The Hoppers traveled to Maine, where they were joined by popular musical family, The Hyssongs, who joined The Hoppers for stops in Vermont and Massachusetts.
The Hoppers were thrilled with the success of the four dates, and according to Hoppers’ spokesperson, Dean Hopper, the trip included many special highlights, incuding fresh lobster in Maine, courtesy of Augusta’s 88.9 Christian Radio. “We had such a great time,” Hopper stated. “We haven't visited the New England states in quite some time, and I had forgotten just how gorgeous the scenery is. We enjoyed singing to sold out crowds in almost all four venues, and we greatly appreciate all the intricate and monotonous work done by the promoters, pastors, church staff and church members, who helped make each event such as success.”
On Monday, June 1, The Hoppers departed New England for the European leg of their summer tour. The European trip included concerts in three countries. On June 3 the first stop took place at the Belfast Church of God in Belfast, Northern Ireland. From Ireland, the group made their way to Norway for six concerts in eight days, performing in Drummond, Skien, Vennesia, Stavanger, Bergen and Alesund. The tour concluded in Amsterdam, Holland on June 13.
The Finsland Gaither Music Club served as coordinator of the European tour, spending countless hours making travel arrangements and making certain every aspect of the Tour ran smoothly. “We were so blessed to have FGMC coordinating everything for us,” Hopper stated. “They graciously arranged travel plans, provided tours for us on our days off\ and treated us with first class hospitality. A very special thank you must be extended to Martin and ‘Dr. No’ (Kolbjorn) for their hospitality and humor throughout the tour. In fact, they arranged for translators for us in the countries where a translator was needed, and those translators were often hard pressed to bridge the language barrier.”
According the Hopper, several memorable moments on stage came as a result of the variations in interpretation. “Since being funny is arguably one of my dad’s greatest talents, it quickly became apparent that some of his stories lost anecdotal meaning in the punch line as they were being translated. Laughter quickly spread on stage when this happened, and in turn, became the engaging point for the laughter that spilled into the audience.”
The comedy aspect of The Hoppers’ ministry may have experienced language barriers; however, as the senior member of The Hoppers explained, language barriers were broken as the clear message of the music needed no translation. “The presence of the Spirit easily overcame language barriers, and the message was understood and received well by everyone,” Claude Hopper shared. “We felt blessed to be able to play to capacity crowds in each of the eight venues we visited. It was exciting to see how receiving the people were to our kind of music and the message of the music. We are eternally thankful for the opportunity to share our ministry with so many people who took it to heart.”
The Hoppers have spent 52 years bringing the sound of hope and healing through Christ into the lives of countless people and are thankful the musical message they have proclaimed for a half century is a universal language that knows no boundaries.
Throughout July and August, The Hoppers’ tour schedule will include stops in nearly a dozen states and Canada. The group will also travel to Alaska for the Gaither Alaskan Cruise with The Gaither Vocal Band and dozens of popular Gaither Homecoming artists.

According to the Courier-Journal, in Louisville, more than 40,000 Gospel music fans converged on the city for this 51st installment of the NQC. The annual event remains one of the largest economic booms for Louisville. This year was certainly no exception.
"This was an exceptional year for NQC," said Claude Hopper, of the Hoppers, one of Gospel music's most enduring and award-wining groups. "We were pleased to see enthusiastic crowds coming nightly to Freedom Hall. It was a record year for attendance; and in our challenging economy, and escalating gas pump prices, this is somewhat of a phenomenon. The Lord has truly blessed this monumental effort. It's especially meaningful to my family (the Hoppers) to see old friends and Gospel music fans who come to NQC annually."

2.25.08: NASHVILLE, Tenn. (2-25-07) Nashville based Canaan Records is pleased to announce a solo recording agreement with popular soprano Kim Hopper. Kim is one of the country's most dynamic and awarded voices in Gospel Music. As a small child, Kim first began singing with her brothers as a part of the talented musical family, The Greenes. Kim sang with her family for ten years before marrying Dean Hopper in November 1988, and in the following year, she joined The Hoppers. During her years with The Hoppers, Kim has garnered the Singing News Favorite Soprano Award 11 times in a row and Favorite Female Vocalist an amazing four years.
Kim is currently in the studio working on her debut Canaan Records project, which is set to release this summer. “It's been several years since Kim released a solo project. As this project comes together, I can definitely see it was well worth the wait. Musically, Kim lives up to every award she has received, but of much greater importance, she lives out every song she sings. We're proud to have her as part of our Canaan family,” commented Dave Clark, General Manager of Canaan Records.
2.15.08: NASHVILLE, Tenn. (2-14-07) Today on Music Row in Nashville, Tennessee at the Warner Brothers Building, The Hoppers celebrated their number one song, “I’m Just Waiting For My Ride,” at a party hosted by Canaan Records. America’s Favorite Family of Gospel Music claimed the number one spot on Singing News Magazine’s National Radio Chart during the month of March for the hit written by Ronny Hinson, who also made a guest soloist appearance on the single. Friends and colleagues gathered to commemorate this monumental occasion after the Gospel Music Association’s DOVE Award press conference, where The Hoppers picked up three nominations for Southern Gospel Album of the Year (The Ride), Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year (“I’m Just Waiting For My Ride”) and Choral Collection (Let The Redeemed Say So).
Chuck Peters, Radio Editor for SG Show Prep, commented, “The first time I heard ‘I’m Just Waiting For My Ride’.. I knew there would soon be a #1 party! This song will become one of those ‘Hopper Classics’ that fans will be requesting and radio will be playing for years and years!”
Rick Shelton, Director of Publishing for Daywind Music and Publisher of “I’m Just Waiting For My Ride,” continued, " ‘I’m Just Waiting For My Ride’ is a fantastic example of the authentic artistry of Ronny Hinson, Lari Goss and, of course, the Hoppers. Although each creator is legendary, their combined efforts have produced a fresh and innovative interpretation of a timeless theme – the believers’ reunion with their King. Well deserved congratulations are due each of them and Canaan Records for achieving the hit song status of #1."
"Congratulations to the Hoppers on their number one song," added Bill Gaither

11-29-07: Eden, North Carolina---(November 24, 2007)--- Canaan Records recording artist, The Hoppers, were awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Morehead High School in Eden, NC. State Representative Nelson Cole presented The Hoppers with the distinguished award which is the highest civilian honor that can be granted in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Past recipients include Michael Jordan, Maya Angelou, Rev. Billy Graham, Bob Timberlake and others. Governor Mike Easley deemed The Hoppers worthy of “Ambassador Extraordinary” as the certificate reads. Recipients of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine have a proven track record of extraordinary service to their state demonstrated through humanitarian efforts that include contributions to their communities along with many years of service to their particular organizations.
The Hoppers commented on this extraordinary evening by saying, "What a great surprise The Hoppers received Saturday night! All of us are thrilled to be the recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. We never dreamed that after so many years of doing what we love, singing Gospel music, that we would be presented with such a prestigious award. It was quite an honor to be recognized by our Governor and to have the award personally presented by State Representative Nelson Cole. The state also honored us by printing an article on the Hopper's 50th Anniversary in their magazine, Our State. People who have never attended a Gospel concert have attended a Hoppers concert because of that article...what a blessing! We are so proud of being from North Carolina and all of the other amazing artists from this great state! Thank you North Carolina, our family and our friends for giving us 50 wonderful years!"

7-24-06:THE HOPPERS: A time for great reading
MADISON, NC — Seeing the Hoppers perform live in concert reminds most listeners of just how encouraging and comforting it is to hear pure, unadulterated Gospel at its finest.
This year, at National Quartet Convention, September 11-16, you can not only hear the Hoppers, buy their CDs and meet the group members—now you can even read about them!
America’s Favorite Family of Gospel prepares for the national release of their long-awaited biography, After All These Years, the Authorized Biography of the Hoppers. Two full years in the making, author F. Keith Davis shares the story of this legendary Gospel music group, beginning with Confederate soldier William Archer Hopper, the Reconstruction years, to family life, tobacco farming and forging out a living in rural Rockingham County, North Carolina.
“First and foremost, this is the story of a true American family that came from very modest beginnings. The Lord has used them mightily. It is with great delight that we offer this book to Gospel fans, and to those who love an inspiring, down-to-earth biography,” said Tim Fortune, of Woodland Gospel Publishing, publisher of the book.
As the years are documented, the story soon zeros in on the Hopper Brothers, and shares how Connie Shelton first joined the group, and eventually married the founder and manager of the group, Claude Hopper. Readers will travel through the decades. Experience the obstacles, valleys and triumphs that this family has encountered and endured. The book, a handsome hardbound edition, follows the Hoppers on the road as one of the nation’s most enduring Gospel groups. The family also looks forward and discusses the future candidly. There are many rare and personal photos of the family from their beginnings.
According to Claude, the musical family is entering the season with a renewed feeling of enthusiasm and passion for ministry. "And with that, this project is one of the highlights of our career." Being that autumn is the season during which most crops are harvested, likewise, the Hoppers are praying that this 272-page book will somehow encourage lives, and yield a great number of blessings from the Savior.

1-5-05:
By now some of you may have already heard about the
early arrival of our
little baby girl. Monday January 3rd Kim started having
what she thought was
contractions. She called the doctors office and the
nurse said, if they
didn't stop by evening she was to go to the hospital
and get checked out. To
make a rather long story short, we never left the
hospital. Kim was going
into full blown labor and the medicine the doctors
gave her couldn't stop
it. Shortly after midnight the doctor started a cesarean
and at 12:39am
January 4th "Lexus Jazz Hopper" was born.
She weighed 4 pounds 151/2 ounces
and is 18 inches long. She's 7 weeks early and will
have to stay in the ICU
unit for several weeks. The baby is doing quite remarkable
and Kim is
feeling pretty good too. We covet your prayers for
both.
I
feel very blessed not only for the good progress that
my wife and new baby
daughter are making but, the fact that all our family
was able to be here
and not on the road. The Lord is so good!!!!!!! God
Bless you all.
Until next time,
Dean...
P.S.
She is really cute!

For the first time in over 40 years the
Original Hopper Brothers and Connie reunited for
a concert at Ellisboro Baptist Church (our home church)
where they first sang together 48 years ago. The response
to the event was just overwhelming, by the time the
family walked on stage there were no seats available
in the church, choir loft, lobby and finally the fire
marshal said "no more people". It was truly
a joyous Homecoming.
